A joyful heart is a good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. -Proverbs 17:22
Medicine is an essential part of life. It has the power to make us feel better when we're ill and can even help us prevent sickness in the first place. The same is true of our spiritual lives. Good medicine can help us in times of distress and provide a way for us to connect with God.
As warriors of faith, we are called upon to take responsibility for our own spiritual fitness and well-being. This verse reminds us that joy is a good medicine which helps keep our spirits healthy and our faith strong. When we live with joy, it pumps us up and gives us the strength to go out and do God’s work in the world. It helps us keep going even when things seem tough and difficult.
However, the verse also warns us against becoming crushed by life's troubles or the cares of this world. When our spirits are broken down, we lose the motivation to keep going. We may feel overwhelmed and become discouraged in our pursuits. Therefore, it is important for us to stay focused on joy and take time to rest and refresh ourselves so that we can continue marching forward for the Kingdom of God.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which gives us direction and wisdom. Thank You for reminding us that joy is our medicine and helps to keep our spirits strong. Help us to stay focused on the joy of serving You and doing Your will so that we can continue to be warriors of faith in this world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
